As part of my Sports PR module, I spent two days with the Colchester United FC public relations team. I was in the press box for the Colchester United vs Stevenage match, which Colchester lost 6-1. While I was there, I was given an illuminating and beneficial insight into the sports PR environment.
Newmarket Journal, Diss Express, Suffolk Free Press & Haverhill Echo - July 2011 to April 2012
I was also a writer for these four weekly titles where I wrote a series of articles on sportsmen and women in the aforementioned areas. These included rally driver Rob Huff and the managers of football teams such as Diss Town and Debenham LC.
Bury Free Press - July 2011 to present
I am currently a contributor to the Bury Free Press weekly newspaper. I write match reports for Stowmarket Football Club and Stowmarket Rugby Club. I have conducted face-to-face and telephonic interviews with the coaches of both clubs as well as other figures within Suffolk sport including Suffolk cricket captain Justin Bishop and promising Formula racing driver Josh Webster. Over the summer months I will be contributing sport reports in the Stowmarket area with this newspaper.
East Anglian Daily Times - June 2011 to August 2011
I completed a two week work placement at the East Anglian Daily Times where I gained experience on both the sport and news desks. While there I wrote articles on Ipswich Town FC, including attending press conferences where I interviewed Jay Emmanuel-Thomas and Nathan Ellington. I also interviewed swimmer Chris Walker-Hebborn and several Suffolk coaches for cricket and swimming. I also spent time editing articles to a word count and structured them in the newspaper using Adobe and Quark software.
Shoot Monthly - April 2011 to May 2011
I briefly became the Ipswich Town blogger for the Shoot Monthly website where I wrote two articles. I found this to be an enjoyable experience but stopped ahead of other journalism commitments during that summer.
Those Were The Days - July 2010 to present
Over the past few years I have been writing Ipswich Town opinion pieces for the unofficial Ipswich Town website. Through this I have perfected and honed my feature writing style and contribute when I have time.
